Something tells me this game isn't too popular around here, whether it's the system it's on or... well, whatever. I recently acquired an Xbox 360 for all of $10, so I figured it was worth a shot.

All in all, it's better than I was expecting. Framerate is choppy, but that can be fixed by turning off background movies (it's like Stepmania!). Songwheel is kind of wonky and annoying. Song selection is... interesting... but at least there really isn't anything seriously off-the-wall and out-of-place, and it's nice to see Hot Limit back, even if it is neutered.

Oh yeah, and both Return of the Toe Jam and Tsugaru (OR-IF-IS Mix) have what may be the most retarded stepcharts in the history of the series.

Get serious.

$10, that's a pretty good deal.

American DDR mixes tend to have horrid steps, though NOVA didn't do too great either :(

I don't know, I'm honestly a fan of steps that fall into a moderate level of difficulty, so the American versions tend to work well for me -- at least, the PS2 versions. Extreme US, though, was horrible, with very few exceptions.

Keeping in mind that there is no official hard pad for the 360, and it's unlikely the song will ever appear in the arcade, this is supposedly possible on a soft mat.

Hmm, well, I've passed the legend of MAX on a suckpad before, so it looks possible, but yes, they're quite stupid.

At least the song itself is pretty good. I think the managed to do a Konami original song justice, in this case... but that might just be me.

OR-IF-IS is decent when it comes to music in general. Have a music video, but it's mildly NWS.

One of the things I really liked about the Ultramix games was how the song packs worked. If you downloaded one using UM1, you would have those songs available in UM2-4, as well. This didn't work when going backwards, but it was a nice touch.

Thanks to Microsoft, it won't work that way for Universe 2. The downloads from UNI1 will only work with UNI1, because all games must have their own downloadable content. I'm sure Konami wanted to keep up that trend, too.

So much for the possibility of playing On the Jazz (Smooth House Mix) with any interface improvements UNI2 makes...

Better just look into the possibility of X360 Stepmania. I'm sure it'd work better than the XBOX version.

If it works out well enough that might actually make it a decent system, although for completely wrong reasons.

I always hope that the next US version will make some improvement that may gain it acceptance by the majority.

It hasn't happened, as of yet. Extreme 2 and Ultramix 2 came closest, I think, but I doubt that will happen again. :(

Well, the "old songwheel" wasn't a songwheel at all. It went back to what makes the most sense, really. :P

Of the "standard" US games, I think Extreme 2 wound up the best of all of them, with Ultramix 2 following, then Konamix (seriously), Supernova, and the rest kind of get lost in the shuffle either because of stupid song choices, stupid interface direction, or odd quirks that just rub me the wrong way.
