Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: k//eternal on 04-24-2008, 14:41
Copied from FB, but people there are really slow to keep the chain going.

How to play: Get from one article to the next by clicking links within the article contents (i.e. no go/search button, etc., durr). No "List of...", category, or index page allowed. You have a limited number of clicks.

For example, one that I posted on FB is "Giant Enemy Crab to Carnegie Mellon in 3 clicks" and my solution was:
Giant Enemy Crab
Nintendo DS
Speech recognition
Carnegie Mellon

Once you get the answer, you have to post the next "quest" within 24 hours or the person who posted the previous one gets to do it.

The author of a "quest" has to know a solution with the stated number of clicks. 5 clicks is the maximum amount (otherwise it gets too complicated).

It's a pretty simple game, but it's easiest to get the idea from playing it, so here we go.

Giant Panda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panda) to Beatmania IIDX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatmania_IIDX) in 3 clicks.

Video game

No, yeah, this is tough (And I thought I was on to something). If I wasn't forced to get off I'd look more!  X(

If by awesome you mean frustrating.  XD

Haha, should've picked something less difficult, but I'm pondering instituting the "2-day rule" that I cooked up, where every 2 days something goes unsolved, you have an extra click available (making it that much easier).

If that sounds reasonable then tomorrow it's HST's win, haha.

EDIT: Alternative possibility (tell me which one sounds better overall), after 2 days, the first click in the sequence is revealed.

Also, in general, when someone solves yours, you have to reveal the original solution.

Makes me wonder if this just isn't an exercise in optimization theory.  Web spiders to the rescue!

The idea of the Wiki game is that it's edutainment, because you potentially learn something along the way :awesomD

I have found something - once you make it to math, there's nearly no way of escaping.

Post by: k//eternal on 04-27-2008, 02:14
Okay! It's been 2 days, and the verdict is... you get the first click.

Giant Panda -> Bamboo --2--> Beatmania IIDX

Post by: Rachel Alucard on 04-27-2008, 09:31
Got it. :awesomD
Giant Panda -> Bamboo -> Méi -> beatmaniaIIDX

Funny enough, I was trying to get to click on Mei on the Giant Panda page with the names and all :X

Guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar) to Bridget (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridget_%28Guilty_Gear%29) in 3 clicks.
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: icy is a fish again on 04-27-2008, 17:23
Guitar -> ??? -> Queen -> Guilty Gear -> Characters -> Bridget

I must learn how to optimize.  I was originally thinking I-No is the key.

Yeah, I took a page out of k//'s book and made the solution as deceptive as VANESSA

Guitar -> Rosette -> Rosette Christopher -> Bridget

NEXT: Play value (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_value) --3--> Code Geass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Geass)

This one isn't so much difficult as hilarious.

Post by: Rachel Alucard on 04-27-2008, 19:38
Play value -> Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -> Pizza Hut -> Code Geass

haha good one there
Now I have to think of one...

EDIT: Okay, here is a lame one...

NEXT: Group Theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_theory) --4--> Code Geass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Geass)

Time to show that icy is not entirely correct XD

(This one is rather tricky.)

Group Theory *cries*.

NEVER AGAIN SHALL I LOOK UPON SUCH MADNESS.
Finals are done and I just finished up this horrid class so yeah.  Ugly.

Post by: icy is a fish again on 04-28-2008, 15:48
Surely you don't mean that - group theory is wonderful.  It's impractical for anything except for proofs but it's a good basis for a lot of recurring things.

Monster group :D

Time to make this fairly easy.

I hope i'm playing this game right.

Fixed-wing aircraft -> Pitch -> Absolute pitch -> Chord (music)
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: chtxdrgn on 07-06-2008, 17:19
That was different from the path I used x3
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: k//eternal on 07-06-2008, 17:26
Haha, yeah, that's one of the fun points of the Wiki game.

So if we're keeping score, k// has 11 million, HST has 2 million, and newcomer has 4.

Haha. I'll make up a new one later, time to do other things like play DDR.

Yea... catching up in posts is an entirely dif. question though.... 17.5 k posts.... dangggg....
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: icy is a fish again on 07-07-2008, 17:04
You're coming along quicker than most :3

It took a couple years, so yeah XD
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: chtxdrgn on 07-07-2008, 17:13
Yeah, obviously x3

I tend to post and stick around for a long time, and suddenly go on haitus for a while and post near to nothing. So if I don't show up for a while, I'm just off doing something ._____. 70% says i come back sooner than 20% says later.
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: icy is a fish again on 07-07-2008, 17:25
what's the other 10%?  Secret?
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: chtxdrgn on 07-07-2008, 17:27
I end up not coming back for a very very very very very long time.

And the last 5% is I don't come back at all.
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: icy is a fish again on 07-07-2008, 17:49
Well, we'll make pie. :D
Title: The Wikipedia game

And it has to be dutch apple pie :3

WHOOOOOHOOOOO

but still, what is the pie for? x3

And aren't we spamming the thread with unrelated talk? I man, this is the wikipedia thread, right?

And aren't we spamming the thread with unrelated talk? I man, this is the wikipedia thread, right?

Yes, of course. And?

Anyway, here is four tons of raw technojutsu the next one and the path I'm using is a little tricky, although you might find an easier one, who knows...

Suicide attack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_attack) --3--> Manual of the Planes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_of_the_Planes)
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: icy is a fish again on 07-07-2008, 22:30
But it's a suicide mission?

Pie time comes twice a day, y'know.
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: chtxdrgn on 07-08-2008, 16:01
That sounds good.

And dang, that wiki path is hard ;;_____;;

Suicide Attack-->Kamikaze-->?-->Manual of the Planes
That's what I have.
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: k//eternal on 09-03-2008, 15:18
It looks like the path I had before has been removed, unfortunately. Challenge has now been ezmodo'd as a result.

Suicide attack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_attack) --4--> Manual of the Planes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_of_the_Planes)

Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: Silencer on 01-13-2009, 18:13
Omg still stuck on this one!?  8D
Come on, k//eterl, let us know how to do this! x3
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: k//eternal on 02-23-2009, 15:18
Okay, about time we get this running again. I guess I won't pull any of these evil tricks anymore, haha. (Originally there was a legit path, though, which started out as Suicide attack -> Afterlife, but there used to be a box regarding planes of existence on the Afterlife page.)

Suicide attack -> Editing Suicide attack (Edit this page) -> Template: Cite book -> Manual of the Planes

This one's less painful by far, but still tricky:

Voldemort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Voldemort) --3--> ETAOIN SHRDLU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETAOIN_SHRDLU)
Title: The Wikipedia game
Post by: NitroX72 on 05-30-2009, 09:34
6 clicks. I suck. Voldemort > Author > Duplicate Metadata Records > Typography > History of Western Typography > Linotype Machine > ETAOIN SHRDLU

Way off the requested number, but I believe I'm on the right track.
