wat?  srs?

It would be amazing if they came up with intuitive controls for it.

But it won't have the SMACK that Pop'n does! D:

And it won't/can't really have anything higher than say, a 10.  Unless you use 2 cons.  Then maybe.  Maybe you'd get up to a 12.

Maybe they can make it have the smack, like wario ware.  BUTT SMACK.

There's good and bad that I see here:

BAD: Probably shittified song list, probably wimpified difficulty and interface

GOOD: Cheap controller here I come!!!

Probably is an understatement.  Of course it's going to be crap.  Go listen to BMUS.

... on second thought, what the hell.  It's using the wii controls?????

OK, have to reconsider the good point of all this...

Hey, atleast BMUS didn't change up everything about the gameplay... Just had some not so good tunes...   XD

It did....

1) inflated grades (e.g. AA -> AAA)
2) 'just great' -> 'perfect' judgments
3) a large portion of the songs were only playable in 5key mode

And this doesn't include the bad song selection...

Don't forget Another had to be unlocked by playing all the songs (including the 5k ones).

Actually, you just had to unlock everything.  There was a 5k song I never played (the one thats unlocked by default in free mode) and I still got another mode.

Go figure.

And I'm wasting all my time, believing unlocks are waiting for me

Actually, playing BMUS is a waste once you realize most of the japanese versions don't require unlocking at all...

(though there's maybe a handful of songs on there that haven't been released on a newer, e.g. 10th+, interface... like... Jelly Kiss... and... ummm....)

8th style gets you anything you can't get from 10+.

Americans just love wasting time to play a song that turns out to be crap anyway.

I thought that was the Japanese mantra.  Our mantra is NOW NOW NOW.

At least DDRV1 will have Rick Astley.  Screw 8 panel mode.

The nice thing about something an 8-panel mode is that if you don't like it, you can ignore it.

Although it will almost definitely have trophies/achievements associated with it, which is lame.

But then, so are achievements. Fitting?

Post by: k//eternal on 06-10-2009, 19:32
Good point. I've always felt like those were stupid.

I hope they just don't work it into the primary unlock mode (* Master Mode). There's no way they'd do that with Double since it requires two pads, but this doesn't.
Title: KONAMI, WHY
Post by: Ragnell on 06-10-2009, 20:22
I suppose it depends on their line of thinking at the time. You actually can play Double on a single pad/controller, if you check the options, but the implementation is poopy and it's horribly easy to lose your place.

Either way, they seem to have figured out a while ago that people primarily play the standard 4-panel mode the most and have catered things around that. There are several games with only Single, but none with only Double or Solo or etc. (thankfully)...

It's like solo+ mode.  I wonder if it means that the patterns will get any better?

Post by: Imasock on 06-12-2009, 15:26
Probably not.  I could understand doubles mode's layout nicely.  This one, not so much  :V

What if they made a 6 panel that looked like the "6" on a cube die?

I still think 5-line Pop'n would be a decent dancing game.
Title: KONAMI, WHY
Post by: Imasock on 06-12-2009, 18:37
Hmm, that could be, yeah, though I havea  feeling the two outer buttons would hurt to slip up on a jump.
Title: KONAMI, WHY
Post by: k//eternal on 06-13-2009, 00:44
Why? It's not like it's 9-line.
Title: KONAMI, WHY
Post by: Lenna on 06-13-2009, 04:45
uhhh, wth, 8 panel mode?

To me, I think theres a limit to number of panels you can have on a single mat until the extra panels are there just to irritate you rather than to make it look like you actually have skill.

Like... true that you may have to move your feet a lot more with 8 panels, but overall I'm not convinced that it'll be significantly more exercise than a comparable 4 panel chart.

I thought the limit was somewhere between 5 and 6 panels, or something....  6 panel mode to me also felt a little redundant, and the skill came down being able to read it rather than being able to "dance" it.

Post by: k//eternal on 06-13-2009, 13:34
You won't have to move them more unless the chart density is higher. It just means that there are more possible positions.

I personally like the 8-panel idea.

I remember there being a DDR clone with 9 panels and you could play 4-panel, 5-panel and 8-panel modes. Don't remember it though... :<

Pop'n Wii has no keysounds. Instant failure.
Title: KONAMI, WHY
Post by: Imasock on 08-09-2009, 16:54
GG.  Instant failure it is, nothing else quite describes that.  It makes sense since it's kind of... inaccurate (speaking of, I wonder what the timings are on that piece of work), but that doesn't make it any less of a failure.
