I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of things are buggy at the moment. I resurrected the boards by upgrading KBBS' broken corpse (destroyed by hackers) to SMF 2.0.8, so there's probably still some damage.

Anyway, I'll look into the avs thing, let me know if anything else is weird.

EDIT: Can anyone else change their own av? What kind of error do you get if not?

After some work, the forums are pretty again :awesome:

If you have Calibri installed (I think at this point most people do?) then you get a way classier look than most forums running the same software :)

It looks good.

Icy, without words, has been hosting my minimalist site for all the time and it's been helpful. Thanks. :p

Still not so much bemani action here though, but am a B.Sc. now, studying for M.Sc., playing games and messing around with friends; c'est la vie.

Hope you've all been fine. Maybe I'll lurk around. Having a nolife-term in college right now. (Shitty group projects which get procrastinated till 3 weeks before deadline)

Please lurk! We are happy to help you procrastinate your semesters because it is what we are very experienced at! XD
What is your Master's study in?

Nice.  Pretty cool for thesis stuff.  The window fog raylighting was of particular interest to me.  I wonder if you could also model the double slit experiment using that and show what the resulting lightwave raylighting would look like.  I love IT stuff and that's what I got my degree in.  I did a bit of OpenGL programming (just enough to figure out how to garner an appreciation for how first person shooters are made, and why all of them look so dark and dingy, xD ) and so I have a reasonable understanding of what's going on there (but the paper would probably help make things clearer even if it is auf Deutsch).  How far are you along in your Master's work?  And what do you expect to be doing for thesis for that?

First term doing random subjects, so not very far. Master thesis maybe more CG stuff, though I have been thinking as someone who wants to call himself IT person I need to start learning some serious web backend tech. All I ever did was HTML and minimal vanilla javascript and looking at the overwhelming complexity of state of the art stuff (JEE, JSF, Cassandra) I feel I'm going to have no market value if I can't do it, so I might force it on myself through thesis topic somehow. That's kind of what I did with OpenGL. At least should be able to get an Apache with PHP running through some SSH.

Getting it running is one thing.  Coding in it is another.  The thing I find best to learn stuff is by having to use it to learn it and given just enough time to get it done.  Also, taking a foundations course doesn't hurt.  The best class I took in terms of learning approaches for programming languages was a programming languages course (history included).  Having to code in a functional language was a real mind bender (yay Ruby, F#).  But yeah, once you have the knowledge of how it's supposed to work, then it's all about making work for realz.  And that, my friend, is where the real fun begins (and perhaps also frustration).  XD

The math department jokingly said I should get a computer science credential to teach our students computer programming as a whole course instead of smaller implementations in our math courses. I know they weren't entirely joking, though.

Or more?

Sock teaches math at a STEM academy.  Actually, k// also teaches math to secondary age kids.
Two teachers here! Oioioi!

Hey, I know a thing or two about computer science! :)  Get them to hire me. |3

Or more?
The school I teach at started a new high school as part of their program, so now they are 5-12 instead of just a middle school or high school. It is a STEM school so we focus on the math and sciences aspect of things, but we do not neglect any of the other subjects by any means.

Anyway, last year I taught 9th graders, since that's all we had. This year I'm teaching 9th and 10th grade. We have a lot of really advanced kids, so it's a bit of a challenge. This coming year I'll have a 7th grader in my Algebra 2 class, that sort of thing. I'll also be coordinating / running our school's tutoring lab so kids can come in and get help after school for whatever they need.

It's a bit intimidating at times, but I love it. 90% of my students are great to work with and I consider it quite a humbling experience every year. Everyone at the school has been teaching for 10+ years, yet I was hired without any previous experience at this school district, so it's hard to keep up with what goes on and what everyone is doing.  I did previously teach at the college that I got my degrees from, so I have middle school through college teaching experience.

Edit - I should also say that I DJ for all of the dances held on campus. The kids get a kick out of that.  :O

I clicked the like button visible only to me and icy for the last sentence. It didn't do anything, but maybe it's the thought that counts :sawesome:

Welcome, welcome.

The boards seem to move at a slower pace than previously. But, still move.

I just bought D3 as it was 50% off. Got powerleveled hard by friends and missed the actual game. xd It's crazy snowballing. I should probably properly play this as single player once.

One single paragon level takes over 2b EXP for me now.
In contrast:
1-60 is 23.5m total EXP
60-70 is 490m total EXP
Paragon 1 is 7.2m EXP
Paragon 100 is 166m
Paragon 200 is 320m
Paragon 300 is 626m
Paragon 400 is 1.136b
Paragon 500 is 1.852b

My next goal of paragon 600 is 4.9b exp >_> (that is just for 599 -> 600)

Very roughly speaking, once you're past paragon 200, reaching the next 100 mark takes about as much time as all the other paragon levels have taken up to that point. (cumulative total doubles every 100 levels, essentially)

I swear D3 is secretly a NIS game. Just look at those damage numbers. That's a good thing, though.

I kinda like to play some D3 around season restart now. I'm slow at learning all the items and shit though. Mostly just doing copy pasterino of leaderboard builds that I then try to understand and that's good enough for me. I don't see it as a game with much depth, but it's nice for mediocreish socializing when sitting in TeamSpeak simultaneously.

Really more enticed by CS:GO at the moment, but being a more awake person in general would really be of benefit to me there as well.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF UNDERTALE ITS REALLY GOOD

I saw Undertale in Steam store when it had like 3000 votes, 99% being upvotes. Bought it without looking at what it was. 99% upvotes should be a great game, even if it was a Barbie dress up game, and it was. (good that is, not a Barbie dress up game)

Reminded me of what proper storytelling can do. It was more of an interactive movie than a game, but such a good one.

It's exactly what good storytelling can do.  It's told in small acts and sequences, and is thought through in a lot of ways that make the narrative very cohesive.

Also, if you have an iPhone, pick up Really Bad CHess.  It's a fun take on chess.

I am actually getting better at actual chess for now. Have a friend I play with from time to time. Shit's more intense than Counter-Strike.

I enjoy chess, but I am bad at it.

I agree with the intense nature of it.  It's difficult.  But fun.

I feel like it's one of those "first 10000 games are your worst 10000" hobbies.

It's just pattern recognition at some point really. If you play it too much you'll probably ruin it. Like how you can kill your favorite songs by listening to them 100 times in a row.

There are certain songs that are the exception to that.  Unfragment for instance. :D
