Bumping this, since I am going to be watching more movies lately! Just watched two today, kind of an odd mix, first was Lupin the III: First Contact, second was THX 1138.

Lupin the III: First Contact was just that, uhm, yeah. It was the story of how Lupin and the gang met up. Typical Lupin antics were everywhere, action a plenty and tons of crazy tricks. Great movie, go rent it or something if you like Lupin, I was pleased with it. The plot is pretty much that of a typical episode of any of the Lupin series, here's Lupin, he wants to steal something. In the process he gets involved in Fujiko, and Jigen, and eventually you find out the treasure he is after draws the attention of Goemon. So it pretty much is a good intro to the characters, and what they are good at, and a good intro to the series if you never got into it. Grade A stuff imo.

Thx 1138, was just weird, if you have ADD you probably wont like it. Very silent, and somewhat bland colors are kind of a turn off (F*ckin' everything is white) but the movie is a sci-fi classic, if there ever was one. It was pretty much amazing visually, despite the bland colors, but that in itself leads to some amazing scenes visually. Also the way it was done, for 1970 was truly only capable of George Lucas, simply amazing movie. Very little dialogue, but that enough was very odd. The whole movie was odd I guess you can say, but I was left wanting to see more like it.

Because of that, my next movies to watch are Logan's Run, and A Clockwork Orange (again). Should hold me over till Netflix sends me more to watch!

I'm trying to, I never watched a lot, but since I haven't felt like doing much else, I'm finally getting to all those movies I have been meaning to watch.

(I got one in the mail today, gotta make sure to watch it)  :awesome:

Review: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Why, Universal, why?

This movie has got to be the worst I've seen in a long time. The story was a complete let down, the acting (excluding Jet Li) was horrible, the soundtrack got so annoying hearing the same EPIC MOMENT music at the most non-epic times, it was pumped with lazy CG; which leads me to ask Universal... WHY? This series is completely dead and they try to milk it. You know when you sit in a bad movie and you watch it till the end, because some part of you hopes it will pick up? It doesn't... The first thirty minutes make you want to walk out. There were several scenes with skimpy dressed women and sexual references, all of which were non-relevant to their scenes. NOTHING in this movie was realistic. Total let down, DON'T SEE IT, not even worth a rent. If you are absolutely bent on watching this movie, then I suggest getting it from Netflix, to watch it once and it be done with. It hurts to even mention watching it.

I went to go see Taken with Liam Neeson last night and later in the evening I saw Inkheart with Brendan Fraser.

Taken-5/5
This movie was terrific, the plot was tried and true but it was amazingly suspenseful. Liam Neeson's character was a fairly unique hero and he definitely gave this movie some serious work. Best movie I've seen in a very long time. Good pacing, great acting, and some amazing drama, suspense, and action a perfect mixture. I left the theatre just thinking WOW. Definitely a "see it in theatres" caliber movie.

Inkheart-3.5/5
It's a PG rated kids movie so it's a fairly simple plot, the acting isn't amazing except for a supporting character called Dustfingers this actor was the best in the entire cast, you truly felt for this guy. It wasn't bad but my overall suggestion would be to give this one a rent.

No matter how hard Liam tries, he is still Qui-Gon Jinn to me. Though I did really want to see Taken since the first time I saw the trailer it did look awesome. Good to hear they followed through and made a good movie, not a good commercial. (If you know what I mean.)

Monsters vs Aliens-5/5
Wonderful, pure fun, classic dreamworks kid friendly humor with some very adult themes added in. Had me seriously guffawing at some points (not easy to do)and actually had some decent sad/emotional pieces that they didn't dwell on for too long adding a strong emotional component without breaking the fun of the movie. Good characters including Hugh Laurie and Seth Roegen, overall it's a really fun movie.

Star Trek-10/10
Perfect. This movie is perfect, amazing action and pacing; beloved characters true to their original counterparts yet still developed and interesting. I went with two people who had never watched the original series and they loved it, I watched it religiously and loved it all the more. Throwback references that catch you almost unaware and moments that are truly touching, funny, and amazing.

Wolverine Origins-4/10
Not Great. Just weak, bad CG, dumb characters, and boring development, would not see again.

ST - About sums it up.

W:O - Agreed.  The end was gay too and made less technical sense than I expected.  Also, apparently there's multiple endings, who does THAT for theatrical release?  Nobody, stunts like that should be DVD only extras.

Up - 110/5 - I must simply get everyone to watch this movie.  It looks good, it's told really well, there's more morals to the story than you can shake a stick at, the characters are really believable, there's enough laughs in it.  If you liked/loved Wall-E, Up is the next sliced bread.  I loved Wall-E, like it was my favorite movie ever, and this one trumped it so hard.  If Pixar keeps making movies outdoing themselves, I can't imagine what the next 5 years look like.

I loved UP, especially the short film in the beginning. Sock and I were ROTFLing all over the place.

On a separate note:
Quote
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 9/10 - Honestly, who hasn't seen this movie yet? Good movie, better then the first, go see it when you can.
Special effects 9/10 - Animated characters are believable, but sometimes they're a little too complicated. Michael Bay is known for lots of explosions and the ever-sickening shaky cam, as the first Transformers demonstrates well. However, this movie had less shaky cam and was a little easier to watch.
Casting 10/10 - Everyone from the first movie, plus some new faces/voices. Sideswipe FTW.
Story 8/10 - The original story has been modernized and altered. Some would say it's for the best, however I enjoy the original as this was the foundation that made Transformers popular in the first place. It's still fun to watch though.

G.I. JOE
Quote
So... You like big guns and explosions?
Special Effects 7/10 - They were ok, but there was a lot of ridiculous moments. Like the SUV the bad guys were driving was ridiculously armored and they could summon weapons from practically nowhere. The physics were a little screwy as well. What can you expect though, honestly it's a kids toy of course it's going to be ridiculous, and the fact that it's a movie by Stephen Sommers makes it a mix for a MANLY EXPLOSION GUNS AND BOOBS extravaganza.
Cast 7/10 - They played there roles well, Sommers has a way of creating over acting.
Story 7/10 - Classic good guy bad guy story where bad guy wants to destroy/rule the world and a good guy/a team of good guys do what it takes to stop him/her. Add in a love interest, a past love interest, and a rejoining of said past love interest, and call it a day.
Now I don't hate Sommers, it's just his recent movies have been a little over the top. I loved the original Mummy and even Mummy Returns...

District 9
Quote
Certainly an interesting movie to say the least.
Special Effects 8/10 - All the weapons were awesome. The "prawns", referring to the aliens, were well done and believable. I was a little put off by the amount of gore, though.
Cast 10/10 - This is what I'm talking about, you get some actors that no one has heard about and search for that new talent. This is certainly shown in this movie.
Story 7/10 - Originality, that is one of the major things driving this movie. It has a good background of the characters and a compelling ending. I wasn't sure where to put this, but the reason I gave it a 7 instead of 10 is because of the language. I honestly think this would have been a perfect movie if there was less gore and language.
Overall 8/10 - Good movie, just not perfect.

Yeah, having just eaten lunch no less than 30 minutes before the movie, District 9 is a real stomach turner at times.  Quite the ugly mess of stuff at times.

Liked the originality, liked the actors.
Disliked the MASS AMOUNTS OF BLOOD AND GORE, disliked the first 20 minutes of the movie for boredom.

Okay, so 20 years ago this spaceship lands in Johannesburg, South Africa. Well not really lands, but hovers. Anyway people have no idea what it is, it just hovers over the city. Well some time passes and people are starting to wonder what it really is, so they basically cut into it and start poking around. They find these aliens who look like they've been there for some time. Over a million malnourished, distraught, aliens. So they bring them down to earth and form a base of operations, where the aliens can eat and sleep, temporarily. Well after a while they end up staying longer then we anticipated, and the base becomes a slum area known as District 9. The movie is a mock documentary about the relocation of these aliens. They mainly focus on Wikus, the main character, and his experiences with D9. The guns are BADASS, like something straight out of a video game.

Ponyo - Dub

A fish with a face becomes a girl in a little mermaid like tale.  It's cute, the animation is meh at the beginning but gets better quickly.  There's no real plot or free will from the characters, but it's cute and wacky, and Liam Neeson.  They wasted voice acting on this, but it wasn't bad at all.  HAAAAAAM!  Not the best Miyazaki film, but cool themes throughout.

Overall - 9/10

I need to watch Ponyo, what I have watched lately

Bullitt - 9/10
It's a classic and an absolute amazing movie, most people just focus on the car chase, but damn, everything about this movie was good. I don't need to review it though just watch it, its awesome.

Koyaanisqatsi - 8/10
Odd, haunting, visually appealing, life changing movie. It's old, but good and very eerie. I loved it and it kinda changed my outlook on life in a way. Something about the ending, it was very symbolic and haunting and the best way to end it. The movie itself is pretty much watching things happening to eerie Philip Glass music and if you get into it you can get a lot of messages out of it. It has a lot of beautiful scenes despite it having no actors or narration, and those scenes are what stick with you the most.

The Shining - 9/10
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.  Oh and Redrum (such an amazing movie)

what else, oh yeah
GI Joe - 5/10
Average Hollywood blockbuster, nothing really to do with GI Joe, except for names. Action was good, it was fun to watch, but damn Hollywood, stop ruining my childhood!

Happiness - ??/10
To odd to rate, I don't recommend watching it but it had its moments. Philip Seymour Hoffman was good in it, but idk. It was just weird and boring but so weird you wondered how weird it could get. Lots of funny moments doing with child rape though, it made me openly laugh out loud at times. When the child rapist's family was sneaking out of the house and his son wanted to run back in the home to get his Tamagotchi with SERIAL CHILD RAPIST spray painted on the wall was a hilarious scene. Yes it was a sick movie.

And that's all I've watched lately, I have dozens of movies to watch but I haven't gotten around to watching them! Oh well, I have a lot of free time so who knows?   :awesome:

Just watched this today. "Cute" is an understatment, "adorable" doesn't quite seem to do it either, how about... "makes you feel warm inside". I agree, it's not his best work, but still whimsical and adventurous. I felt kind of out of place, being that creepy guy that sits alone in a theater full of kids...

That's exactly why I brought friends.  Actually, the funny thing is that most of the people who were there were seeming anime fans.
