W7 is supposed to be what Vista should have been, so make of that what you will.

I think my biggest issue with W7 is how nothing is where I expected it to be when I tried it out over XP.  Also, it becomes increasingly harder for me to actually find the proper solution for a problem and how to accomplish that solution in W7, unfortunately.

It took me 40 minutes to get everything properly set up for a friend of mine to use wireless internet on our school's campus, his laptop uses one of the W7 release candidates.  I did the same thing in 3 minutes on my friend's XP laptop, =|

Yeah that's true, however there's always ease of use over time. The more familiar you are the easier it is to mess around. I dunno, Vista's installed on everything anymore, it's really a decision of Vista/W7 or tear Vista out and install XP.

Vista out and install XP.
I tried to do this on my friend's new laptop the other day.  Every time I went into the windows XP setup booting from the CD, it would blue screen after a certain point.  I'd try a different route, and go into the setup from the CD while Vista was running and it would tell me that the system wouldn't allow me to start either way I tried.  One method gave me the "This version of software is older than what's already on your system so we won't install it" business, and the other way I got some "This software has been blocked for use on this system due to security blah blah" junk.  I lol'd hardcore, because unless I install her hard drive as a secondary drive in my system and reformat it, there's no way I can install XP on it at ALL.

Isn't Microsoft wonderful?

Yeah. there's some sort of thing in place that won't let you get rid of Vista and install XP.  There's some very special rules if you want XP and Vista, mainly the order that they are set up in the boot loader.

Try installing XP on your computer with it as the only drive drive, then run the utility on the cd called "SysPrep".  It'll wipe out the drivers and do a mini install for the disc.

Nothing's decided yet, I'm just trying to figure out what I should do. I'm still considering Ubuntu for the laptop, I'm just unsure because of the Open Office being different than Word, PowerPoint etc, and because I like to play a game from time to time but Wine should deal with that ok. I'm also unsure due to the fact that ubuntu seems...tricky and I'm not overly computer savvy.

Well, said laptop is with her in Italy until Thanksgiving, so it'll be a while before I can attempt.

I hate bad simfiles, why is it so hard to not put stupid speed ups and stops with a bunch of mines everywhere and steps that make no sense.

UGH I hate wasting money at the arcades but it seems like every chart (except from here) I get is rubbish, or is wayyyy to easy. I think I should just make my own charts ugh screw r21 cabs

Yeah, learning to make your own charts is definitely a good idea, then you always know what level of quality you're getting and have the best selection of music, too :awesomD

Yeah, since there is now a nice hacked r21 machine around me I am probably gonna start doing that. I just hope I don't get lazy like I used to (as in get half way through a chart and forget it)

OH WELL, it beats playing shit charts and wasting a credit : :D

For the better or worse, FFR is no longer?  Ack.  I remember the site from back in the day, when the simfile system was haphazard.  I got good on DDR because of FFR back in 2004.  I also remember some people from that site that spawned simulationstyle.

Hope it's used wisely. I thought it was kinda amusing having randomly spaced hurf posts though.

That FFR situation sounds pretty wrecked, hope everyone can walk away ok and we don't have a music game community war.

Thread Revival:

I just wanted to speak to whoever stole my jumpdrive, it wasn't like I needed anything on that. Nor did I have 3 years worth of work in various subjects on it nope not at all.

Some but not all, it's stuff that I have accumulated through 3 years like I said and I don't remember if I had certain things backed up, and certain things I know I didn't have backed up. I don't remember what all I had so it's 3x as bad.

*hugs*  I lost a drive to the wash once.  It was a friend's drive. :/

I feel your pains.  I hope you can find it, though.  :O

Not so much a rant as an amusement.

I logged into one of my email accounts that I forgot about for a loooooong time.

Yeah, 28000 emails.  There have been 3-4 so far that were legitimate out of the first 13k.

Intense.

I'm surprised they allow that many messages in the inbox.

Um, they archive every 45 days, so to be fair, 27000 were in the old messages folder.  Still, 1400 in the main inbox :)

And yes, only 3 actual messages.
