Suddenly, a crappy twist

Graphics card on this laptop seems more or less fried. Not sure what to do about this; work and regular Windows stuff is possible, but anime lags often and games are basically unplayable. Might be hard to get stuff done for a while.

Well, I'll keep everyone posted on the matter.

For now, I've written this up, if you're interested in making your own pad files. Nothing super deep or weird, but this is what I do.

Thought that really sucks about the laptop, at least the HD didn't die or anything, I could imagine loosing all that would be much more devastating, so it isn't all that bad, just a minor set back

Well, my work isn't lost, yeah.

This thing is aging a bit anyway, so I might need a new laptop, though (since it might not be worth sinking funds into repairs).

Ouch... that's not good.

Although I like the "tutorial".

If I had to recommend a laptop right now, I'd tell you to get the laptop that I have.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152116 - Everything's the same except for the graphics card, oddly, which has downgraded since.  Price has dropped though.  The speakers on this thing are pretty spiffy.

Appreciate the thought, but I can't work with a monitor res like that, haha.

Well, able to do the same.  It might also be possible to get the component graphics card for yours to fix it if the graphics card can be replaced separately.  What's the model of the lappy?

XPS M1710, its fans are also dead though (which presumably led to the graphics card getting fried). Probably easiest to replace the computer itself, but we'll see.

Wow, you know your laptop is cooked when Youtube causes the monitor to blink.

Anyway, gonna be getting a new one soonish, so we'll be about a month behind schedule, but no big deal.

Hm, ebay reveals the card to cost at minimum $300.  It's not too difficult to replace, but you'd want to make sure the fan is working too ^^;

Well, that's good. I don't mind when things go off schedule, it's only where they're off schedule for at least 2 months (maybe less) when I start to wonder what happened, why it isn't on schedule.

But take your time, no rush at all.

Fans are pretty easy to replace though, and much cheaper than a video card.  I suppose the computer might still be perfectly usable if the fans were replaced.

It's more like the fans died and then the video card cooked because I didn't notice.

No big deal, and I don't really think it's an important point of discussion when I already ordered a new computer anyway.
