The end days and the new beginning
« on: 06-19-2011, 20:19 »
First off, KBBS is going to be closing shop after several long and awesome years of amazing smilies. We'll keep all the posts archived and things will still be open for a while, but you've seen this place ghost towning because I've had other projects in the pipeline. All updates from now on will be on the twitter feed and the new, shiny Facebook page. Which if you're on Facebook, you should help us out and like :D

Tell your friends about DDR and Dance Anarchy! There's a lot of exciting stuff in the works for us, and I know people have been waiting for XVII FIUNT, of course. There'll be good news about that shortly in the places above :)

As you can probably tell, Dance Anarchy itself isn't closing and won't for a very long time. It's just that how you keep up with it is going to change a bit. If you don't like Twitter or Facebook, feel free to check the site itself now and then for all the latest stuff!

Regarding , don't worry about them being invisible at the moment, I have all the totals down and song requests will make it back to the Facebook page! More details on that and what you'll be getting later.

Thanks for all the awesome times and here's to more to come :awesome:

I LIKE THIS.

It should help get some attention, though right now this Forum definitely looks NICER than any Facebook page.

I also take it it's all going to keep being about your projects only, instead of generic DDR community or anything like that? Like, no "guest appearances" in song packs, nor hosting whole song packs which are from a community member and don't really involve yourself much?
I'm asking because quantity and musical direction are limited with the packs you provide and more variation could bring more popularity.

Also this will keep being strictly dance-mat-DDR, no fingertapping on keyboard?

I know we've got quite a few keyboard players and I'll accomodate them to some degree, but only in the usual ways (minigames/contests and the occasional KB chart).

I think Facebook is better suited to hosting mini-communities around small projects, honestly, and there's more of a "poke in whenever" feeling there. As for other people's stuff, this is kind of experimental ground and we'll have to figure it out as we go, but I think if other people want to post links to their own stuff, that should be a welcome thing also. It'd be nice to encourage a second coming of the DDR sim community, and I'm happy to give shout outs to whoever needs/deserves them.

I'm not really big on song packs, though, even if it's all my own stuff. That's why you rarely see batch downloads of my files, although I'm planning on changing that just so people can get started easily. I find that song packs tend to get overambitious and unwieldy, and it's more my style to provide new content whenever it's done :)

Anyway, please tell all your friends about it if you can (well, whoever might be interested in music gaming)! We need as much help as we can getting off the ground :D

I already had 2 mates and my brother come over to try it out. They sure enjoyed it.
"That's unexpectedly fun; worth spending some money on this sometime."

I'll try to lure more people into trying it out. Got at least two more mates who have shown
a direct interest into this. ^^

I see your reasoning on song packs. It's true and makes sense. I'm aiming to get 50 songs in a pack with difficulties from challenging paddable to challenging keyboardable. I should get around to pay for some webspace so I stop being stuck with silly free hosts, and can also release stuff over time instead of in big batches.

I wonder how Facebook is going to serve useful, really. As far as I can tell it's just one single "wall" to post messages on. Even with few people it's prone to getting bloated. The main page will be a crucial 'node' to keep things structured and overseeable and would need a redesign to serve those purposes.

"Poke in whenever"-feel makes sense. Hope it doesn't mean "opt out whenever" likewise, because especially young people love building the illusion of social value around the growth of their massive postcount, which Facebook does not provide.

Yeah, as far as hosting goes, icy is the man to ask, not me :)

Sort of true, but that's not the direction of communication I'm thinking of. If you like the page, updates will show up on your feed, which means that you can get on Facebook and see when new Anarchy stuff rolls out. Previously you had to visit KBBS or Anarchy itself, short of the Twitter feed in which case you end up with a lot of random updates on other things I'm doing.

Also worth noting, each post on the wall is actually more like a thread because you can comment on it.

Makes sense. Might as well also deploy on vk.com and orkut.com as to not only hit the western crowd of people.

Also, PM'd.  :cc:

Heard about Google Plus? That's going to be so much more appropriate than Facebook, because of the whole circles-deal. Also heard from most mates they are going to migrate. Check it out.

Boards that aren't in the Archived (now read-only) category are going to be open forever. If anyone wants to stick around, random chatter will still happen from time to time.

I've got a G+ account, we'll see where it goes, although it's hard to create Dance Anarchy as an entity separate from myself on there.

Aw, the Fun & Games board, too? :(  Oh well.

I've never been a big member of Facebook groups and whatnot, so it's good to see some of this is sticking around. Will be fun to see where this all goes, at any rate.

Get serious.

Chatter chatter.

In other random news, I got a flow wand.  It's shiny and about 2ish feet long and magi-levitates (with the aid of physics and a string).  http://www.flowtoys.com/product.php?productid=2 is what it is, and I'm sure there's fun and crazy stuff to learn with it.  It was fun to use at the club at aX. :D

It took me about an hour to be able to get it to move about, then I walked around with it for most of the day and took it into the club with me in the evening.  It was a lot harder to do in the dark, but I got a lot more practice with that, and by the end of the night, I could get it to go for the length of a song without getting messed up.  I also got a few people who came up to me wanting to try, one of them was cute and had green hair. :sawesome:  Basically, it gave me something to do while making my eardrums ring. :D
