IIDX want play lol?
« on: 03-10-2007, 23:21 »
So how do you guys play IIDX?

I've been wanting to play, so I downloaded a few simulator things.  Well, they were all *really* old and abandoned, and I could only get one of them to actually work.  It's called "Be-Pachi Music" and it's the crappiest excuse for a program that I've ever seen.  Every other song causes it to dereference invalid pointers or something.  Besides, I have a feeling I won't get very far learning to play on the keyboard.

Is there a website like ddrfreak that keeps a list of IIDX machines?  The only place I've ever seen a machine is at the mall that icy goes to.

I want 2 play 2 so I can be kewl liek u guyz.  8)

Edit: Oops, I hope I didn't post this in the wrong forum.  Well it doesn't appear that I can delete it, so .... bite me.  :P

I moved it.  In any case, um, I thought DDRFreak did have IIDX locations, otherwise it was aaroninjapan for a while, and I have no idea anymore.

All I know is that it's easier to try to find beatmania us and play it on your ps2, then get a fliptop mod for all the other fun stuff :3

Seconded; also, learning IIDX in the arcade will drain your money so fast that you will leave very frustrated, I think. Nobody's good at that game when they start, unless they're really creepy people. Or HST.

HST wasn't good when he started either, he just practices a lot, and then attacks hard songs until they die.  I heard moogy did similarly, in that he didn't mess around with the easy stuff, he started playing 6 and 7 stars until he could beat them consistently.

DDRfreak lists "other bemani" only for places that have a DDR machine.

Anyways, I read that there's a US version that comes with a decent controller, for only $30 at gamestop.  I suppose the US version probably sucks, so then I need the fliptop thing and some blank DVDs I guess.

Maybe making a trip to gamestop sometime soon.. :)

Indeed. BMUS is horrible and they messed up the grading system, but it's worth starting on. Don't play 5-key though, ever.

Unfortunately, it's really really hard to find BMUS anymore, problem being that they stopped carrying them.  Toys 'R Us liquidated them just before christmas at like $20 each.  Best bet now is amazon, or ebay.

The controller's still worth it, especially with a few modifications :3

Yes, I definitely agree with the whole "AC only play drains money quick".  That was the case for me when I first started IIDX.  I started on normal beatmania (5-key) first.  Acid Bomb was probably the hardest song that I could pass at that time.  Then I saw that the arcade at the mall I go to had IIDX (it was 5th Style at first, now it's 8th) and played on 2P due to playing the old beatmania first.  I pretty much dumped all of my money into AC play until I could consistently clear all the flashing 7's.  The only one I couldn't clear was The Safari[7k].  I estimate about $100+ wasted just to get that good at IIDX playing only at the arcade.  CS would have saved tons of money...

Oh yeah, and I used to play Auto-Scratch at the arcade until I realized how much that hurts you in the long run. :(
That's how I cleared V[7k] at first.  Then I took off Auto-Scratch and could not pass anymore.  It was at that point that I switched to the 1P side and somehow scratching became easier.  Now I'm stuck with 1P.

if that was tl;dr then the point was basically -- get CS IIDX.  :D
Oh and a side note: I did play some simulated IIDX w/ keyboard, but only to play the songs exclusive to simulators (onoken, shiki, beatMARIO, etc.) and I think that helped quite a bit in getting better.

Sorry if this post is just a wall of unorganized text -- there is just so much I've learned about IIDX over the years and it's hard to contain them into paragraphs. :X

I'm going to the mall tomorrow.  If gamestop doesn't have it, then I come home and try to order from HSN.  8)

Edit: Oops that says game only >_< darn.

There was one that went for a dollar-something.  I missed it though because I slept in too late. :(

I'll keep checking ebay.
