Well, if Konami markets it as musical Whack-A-Mole it might do pretty okay, since Whack-A-Mole is an arcade classic.

But then, Konami keeps failing at pitching these games right.

I wish to see the day when they come out with a "Fun with integrals" game about using DSP.  "Be a professional recording engineer in a game!"

Pitch is everything *squeak*

Hahaha, that was pure genius Icy.  :awesomD (Really, that made me LOL)

But yeah, I agree with Sock on this, barely anyone will touch it, only curious 1 time arcade goers. I doubt to many Bemani fans will sprout up because of this like it did DDR.

Wait, why the hell is this getting an official US release and not Beatmania/Empress?! Damn you Konami, why must you make our love such a difficult one.  :(

I suppose given what it is, jubeat is more likely to get an audience than beatmania. That's practical, and I'd say it's a good decision.

I don't know if they'll be able to pull through with it, but it's a start.

Yeah but why bring the obscure, retarded looking crap over here and not the games that already are winners?  =X

People will begin making improper assumptions about the games konami's arcade division produces and will only see IIDX as "just another" rhythm game when it was probably one of the first to ever be marginally successful.

Because IIDX is too hardcore, and if they dumb it down, well, BMUS arcade edition? Doesn't even come with cheap controllers (which was the whole selling point pretty much since it was otherwise neutered 9th).

Bringing arcade IIDX over here would be a horrible idea, as cool as it would be to have IIDX machines officially in the area.

The massive failure really occurred in the creation of BMUS, because I'm still convinced they could have turned the whole game around right there by marketing to the hardcore crowd and leaving the game mostly intact. But we've been over that again and again.

In any case I think bringing jubeat over here is a good idea as long as they do it right.

marketing to the hardcore crowd
BMUS - Suzaku, Scott Brown, and L.E.D. Edition

I really think we need to go back to the days when nerds played games, where it was okay to spend a whole roll of quarters on a game because it was so hard.  There was a point to all of it.  You make a community, the community takes care of you.  Apple is a prime example of exactly that.  Cater to the hardcore fanbase, and you can do no wrong.

Cater to the hardcore 'till it becomes trendy you mean?  :awesomD

You never need to market to everyone else in Apple's world, the sales just roll in, then again, Konami + America just doesn't seem to work, only DDR was really "worth" it at the time, but it and Bemani's fame kind of died down after Extreme... Though I hope Konami isn't expecting Jewbeat to revive that... They would be stupid to think or even hope for that...

DDR worked because the marketing angle of it as a "casual" game with exercise benefits was perfectly functional. DDR is pretty easy in general, even if they're tacking on retarded boss songs on the upper tiers these days.

Unfortunately, KDE seems to think that this is the only way to sell their games. This is dumb, because everything else in the Bemani series (short of the silly things like Dance 86.4) is HARD; watering it down doesn't really work because the basic gameplay itself is a key part of the difficulty.

I think jubeat can reach moderate success as a cooler Whack-A-Mole, but there's no home version (and such a thing would probably just not happen because it'd be stupidly costly), and it doesn't have that exergaming bent, so it's not going to hit DDR levels.

PPP was easy, but made you look like a dork.  It remains one of my favorite games in the series.

Maybe they can do that one on the wii, with the sensor bar.

To be serious, dai's dancing is actually pretty hard to copy especially if you're playing a music game (particularly since at parts the vid is spliced together, of course). But it's fun to try, and it's certainly possible to get a similar feel out of it.

Well, at least it goes to the beat.
Anyway, I heard this was going to be a "high-tech" version of pop'n; instead, it's Whack-A-Mole to music. At least there's some good music *COUGHSANDSTORMWHEEZE* on it.

jubeat is kind of like the opposite of Konami's usual marketing. The game concept sounds horrible but the songlist seems great and the whole thing seems to be solidly put together so I think I'd actually feed it some coins if I saw it.

Suddenly, jubeat is loctesting in America again, but instead of being UBeat as it was last time, it's become "Juke Beat".

Well, okay, but can we just get this game in arcades everywhere already?
